The Etruscans, Pompeii, and Montecassino (week 3)!

on tuesday we first visited Ostia Antica. this is a large archeological site that was a habor city of ancient Rome and is very close to the modern town of Ostila (where we ate lunch).
overlooking the baths of the city
the first fast food!
after our lunch in Ostia, we went the estruscans necropolis... there are over 1,000 tombs there dating back from the 9th century BC to the 3rd century BC

one of the many mounds the families were buried in

on thursday, we visited pompeii. the city was destroyed after a volcano eruption in 79 AD. it was found 1500 years later in 1599 and has been excavated so people can see the city!
the stepping stones

the whole group :) love every one of them!
a pompeii road
dead end of a road before the forum...
apparently pompeii had a lot of brothels and this was the symbol the lead the people to the brothels...

a bed in one of the brothels...
it was made of stone so it would last longer

remains of bodies were found in the position they died!

the gym! the holes in the wall were there lockers!

the entrance of a house.
this is the area a wealthy family would use during the summer then they had another
room to use during the winter

the volcano, Mt. Vesuvius!
it is due to erupt again!!

on our way home we got to visit the Abby of Montecassino.

it has the most beautiful view!
