so how our schedule works is we have 4 days of classes. monday and wednesday we are in a class room and tuesdays and thursdays we travel around Italy [i'm never going to want to go back to auburn for classes]. so our first field trip was to the area of the Castelli Romani, which is the Rome SE Hills that consits of tiny, precious little Italian towns! our first stop, after many windy to roads, was at the top of the second highest point of the Roman Hills to give us an idea where all the towns were! it was a beautiful sight!

this is one of the two lakes we could see! that is the Pope's summer home you can see!! |

this was on our walk down the mountain! it was a shrine to Mary! |
our next stop was in the town Frascati! Frascati is famous for its white wine. every october they have a white wine festival called Sagra del Vino where wine comes out of all the water pipes and fountains! and a few years ago they messed up the pipes so wine came out of the sinks and shower pipes!!
|
they are known for their 3 breasted cookies, 2 for milk and 1 for the wine |

Cathedral Basilica of St. Peter Apostel |

our next stop was Abazia di San Nilo in Grottaferrata. it is one of the most internationally known holy places in the Castelli Romani. it was founded in 1004. not very interesting but it was cool!
then we arrive in Nemi [my favorite town]! Nemi is known for it strawberries, and i must say they are the best i have ever had! i had some with powder sugar on it- delicious! it was such a cute little town. we got to through the allies on our way to a beautiful and delicious [as always] restaurant that overlooked the the lake!

our last destination was Castel Gandolfo. it is the summer residence of the pope! this is where i brought my first italian scarf for just 5 euros!! and it is fabulous!! it is also the home of the first mailbox EVER. pretty cool.
